Ruim 1.000.000 boseigenaren die zijn aangesloten bij PEFC beheren wereldwijd ruim 310 miljoen hectare gecertificeerd bos volgens de eisen en criteria van PEFC.
More than 20,000 companies in the supply chain hold a PEFC Chain of Custody certificate to deliver sustainable wood and paper. This ensures that PEFC-certified wood (products) and paper are traceable from the forest to the many end products. Belned is one of these companies.
The PEFC label guarantees that our wood products come from sustainably managed forests. By choosing them, you contribute to more sustainable forest management worldwide. The PEFC label addresses not only ecological but also economic and social aspects.
The PEFC label guarantees:
- the preservation and enhancement of biodiversity;
- the protection of ecologically valuable areas;
- the maintenance of forests, thus preventing deforestation;
- a ban on the use of hazardous chemicals and genetically modified organisms;
- the protection of the rights and well-being of workers in the forest and throughout the supply chain;
- respect for the rights of (indigenous) local communities.
FSC® and PEFC: Two labels for sustainable forest management compared side by side
- Both labels take economic, social, and environmental aspects into account.
- The goal of both organizations is the same, but the approach differs. This is especially true for the way certification is managed.
- FSC® works from forest to end user (top-down), while PEFC works from end user to forest (bottom-up).
- The logo of both certification schemes may appear on the certified product if at least 70% of the material comes from certified forests.
There will always be differences between the certification schemes. The key point is ‘sustainable forest management,’ not the label itself. The most important thing is the shared goal: sustainable forest management and increasing the area of certified forests worldwide. When you choose FSC or PEFC certified products, you are consciously choosing sustainable forest management, a responsible choice!
N.B. Approximately 400 million hectares of forest worldwide are currently certified. That is less than 10% of the world’s total forest area. So there is still a lot of ground to cover!
