Glass and ventilation are closely related. Many ventilation grilles are installed together with or instead of glass in window frame profiles and can be ordered through glass suppliers. The type of grille installed depends on the chosen ventilation system and the noise levels in the surrounding environment.
In recent years, a lot of attention has been given to the airtightness of façade constructions. However, this high level of airtightness has especially led to moisture problems and mold growth in homes. Human activities inevitably produce humid and polluted air.
MAXIMUM AIRTIGHTNESS IS THEREFORE NOT BENEFICIAL IN TERMS OF HYGIENE AND COMFORT, UNLESS A VENTILATION SYSTEM IS IN PLACE THAT CONTINUES TO FUNCTION UNDER ALL WEATHER AND USAGE CONDITIONS.
Ventilation can be done naturally (through openings in the façade, such as tilt windows or ventilation grilles in vertical air ducts) or mechanically (using air-moving fans or mechanical extraction). Nowadays, a combination of both methods is most commonly used.
The main advantage of ventilation grilles compared to open windows is, of course, the reduction of energy loss, less noise disturbance, limited entry of insects, and increased protection against burglary.
No, secondary glazing units are also, for example, fitted with safety glass to protect stained glass windows.
Condensation can be prevented by ventilating the space between the panes with outside air. Assuming the secondary glazing is mounted on the exterior, you can do this by interrupting the sealing rubber at the bottom of the secondary pane. This can be done by making a small break—about one centimeter—in the rubber at the bottom left and right corners (approximately 5 cm from each corner). This creates sufficient space for ventilation.
For secondary glazing installed on the inside, it is especially important that the exterior window seals are in good condition. Often, old putty is still present, which allows moisture to pass through. This moisture can no longer escape due to the well-sealed interior secondary glazing and will start to form condensation. To eliminate condensation in the space between the panes, a slight airflow to the outside must be created. You can achieve this by drilling two small angled holes from the cavity outward, allowing for ventilation with the outside air.
The glazing beads from Belned are treated with Sikkens WF 3310-06-25 in the colors 1013, 7026, 7035, and transparent Pehalin Cetol WP 560 color 161, and can be painted over with both water-based and synthetic paints.
Yes, at the customer’s request, the glazing beads are miter-cut, rebate-cut, pre-drilled, and provided with ventilation slots and notches (nose beads). Additionally, they can be grouped by brand, side, front, or rear facade.
